How can this be solved?
We all know that rubbish isn’t a good thing that doesn’t look good around a school, so how can we get rid of the rubbish and clean up the school? I will be answering this question with three different examples of how we can solve the rubbish problem. These can be found below this text.
- My first idea for clearing rubbish from the school is to put some sort of reward in for students if they collect a certain amount of rubbish. This could get a little out of hand if we tried to keep count of every piece of rubbish students collect to count how much every individual student has, which is why I thought that a good way to keep track of the amount of rubbish students have correctly disposed of is to have a few big bins, two for each house (one rubbish and one recycling) (so twelve in total) that students of each house can dispose rubbish into, by putting rubbish in one of the bins of their house. The first house to fill both of their bins would get a reward like a pizza lunch or something like that, that most students would strive to get, therefore making the students happier and making the school cleaner.
- My second idea for cleaning rubbish from the school is to have some of the students who are in referral or detention go around the school and clean up rubbish around the school. This idea could work, but for this system to function students will have to have either a teacher nearby to supervise the students because the students are there in the first place for a reason, meaning that the students could be a liability and could run away or not clean rubbish if not under supervision. Or the students could have to take a certain amount of rubbish back in a bag to show that they actually did gather rubbish while they were gone, and if they didn't gather rubbish then they will be given a warning, if they don't gather rubbish again they could maybe spend more time in referral or detention.
- My third idea for cleaning rubbish from the school is to just bring more awareness to the causes rubbish has on the environment and the ecosystem as a whole. This will give students more of an idea of what happens when they litter and maybe cause them to second guess themselves, causing them to not litter. This can be achieved by putting posters around the school to remind students as they walk past, these posters will bring attention with bright colours and bold wording, the posters will be a small informative about how littering is bad and the effects of littering. Another idea would be to release a website like this one, that gives information on the harms of littering and how to prevent littering. This is helpful to give a larger sample of information then the poster if people are more interested. The website could also have a link to a get together where multiple people get together and pick up rubbish. These ideas are good because they are quick, cheap and effective which is why I think these would be a good idea to put into effect.
